About The Lodge
The Sunraysia Daylight Lodge No. 909 was consecrated on January 5, 1994.
The Sunraysia Region is in the far North-West of Victoria, approximately 600km from Melbourne and 400km from Adelaide. The town of Mildura is the ‘hub' of the Sunraysia area. Mildura is a regional city with a population of approximately 60,000 people located on the Murray River.
Because of its geographical location the Sunraysia Region is regarded as an ‘oasis in the desert'. Agriculture, particularly growing citrus, wine grapes and dried fruit are a major part of the local economy, as is wine production. Some of the world's leading wine companies operate in and around the Sunraysia Region, as well as there being numerous smaller boutique wineries. The region has strong ties with the south-west region of New South Wales and the Riverland region of South Australia.
Freemasons played a significant part in the development of the Sunraysia area. The names on many streets in Mildura reflect the names of early Freemasons involved in the citrus and viticulture industry and the development of the irrigation systems that led to the Sunraysia area's importance in the economic development of Victoria.
There are many community organisations that have been supported by The Sunraysia Daylight Lodge. Recently we assisted Heartbeat Sunraysia to raise funds to purchase heart monitoring equipment for local ambulance paramedics. Lodge members are also involved in the Master's Games that are conducted in Mildura each year and the L2P (Learner to Probationary) Driver Training Program that assists young drivers to gain practical experience that will enable them to obtain their probationary driving license and the Mildura Eisteddfod.
Our Lodge is made up of members from a diverse range of occupations and age groups. We involve our ladies who join us on alternate months for lunch following our regular meetings and participating with other district Freemasons and their families in a Combined Lodges Christmas Function.
We welcome visitors to many of our functions and are always keen to talk to people interested to know and understand the principles of Freemasonry and to address any questions that they may have.
Our regular Lodge meetings are held at the Sunraysia Masonic Centre in Irymple on the Fourth Monday of each month, except for December, with the Installation meeting being held in September.
We would also be pleased to provide further information on The Sunraysia Daylight Lodge or to arrange an inspection of the Sunraysia Masonic Centre for any interested person.
