About The Lodge
The Seymour Lodge, consecrated on 21st June 1883 under the English Constitution and had its beginning when four Masons met at the Royal Hotel in Seymour and decided to investigate if there were other Masons in the district who might be interested in forming a new lodge.
Original meetings were held in the ballroom of the Royal Hotel until 1903 when a new Lodge building was constructed. The Lodge was further expanded in 1926 with the construction of the current Temple.
The Lodge has had a long and enduring association with the Goulburn region having historically drawn its membership from the railways, the Australian Army and from pastoral workers of the district. Over the years it has particularly boomed during times of war when many visiting Masons were based in Puckapunyal.
The Lodge has uniquely conferred degrees for visiting servicemen from British and recognised US Constitutions over the years. Seymour Lodge has supported many charities and organisations; including the Seymour Special Needs School, Goulburn Options, the Seymour Secondary College, the Seymour Youth and Fitness Centre, the Relay for Life and the Seymour Elderly Citizens Hostel.
The Lodge underwent extensive renovation in 2012 and has been at the forefront of applyng new and innovative ideas to modernise the South and it's overall public presentation. The Lodge has an active social committee with functions including the ‘Penguin Restaurant' where the members cook dinner for the spouses and widows, Family Christmas Night, regular film nights, and other organised events.
The Lodge has sister Lodges in Sydney (Seymour 945) and Seymour, Indianna (Jackson Lodge 126). The Seymour 945 association has endured since 1960 with reciprocal visitations every year at the time of installation.
