About The Lodge
The Mildura Lodge is Number 170 on the register of the United Grand Lodge of Victoria. Mildura is a regional city with a population of approximately 60,000 people located on the Murray River in the Sunraysia Region in the far north-west of Victoria. It is approximately 600km by road from Melbourne and 400km from Adelaide.
The Mildura Lodge was consecrated on November 10, 1891 and is the oldest lodge existing in the Sunraysia area. Since its inception The Mildura Lodge has been the catalyst for the formation of several other Freemason's lodges in the region.
History shows that freemasons played a significant part in the development of Mildura and the wider Sunraysia area. The names on many streets in Mildura reflect the names of early members of the Lodge. One such member was Bro. W.B. Chaffey who joined from the Evergreen Lodge No. 259 in California, USA. Bro. Chaffey was instrumental in the design of the citrus and grape blocks, and the development of the irrigation systems that led to the Sunraysia area's importance in the economic development of Victoria.
There have been numerous community and charitable groups and organisations that have been supported by The Mildura Lodge during its existence. In recent times we have supported the Salvation Army to provide Christmas dinner for the under privileged, the Red Cliffs Secondary College to enable students to attend a conference on environmental sustainability of the Murray River and Chaffey Secondary College by providing bursaries to enable less fortunate students to complete their secondary education.
Lodge members are also actively involved in the Master's Games that are conducted in Mildura each year; The L2P (Learner to Probationary) Driver Training Program that assists young drivers to gain practical experience that will enable them to obtain their probationary driving licence and the Mildura Eisteddfod
The Mildura Lodge is fully accredited in accordance with the requirements of Freemasons Victoria. This means that the Lodge must continue to be administered in a professional, businesslike manner, maintain high standards of ceremonial work and provide a warm and attractive environment for its members, visitors and their families where appropriate.
Our Mildura Lodge is made up of members from a diverse range of occupations and age groups. We involve our ladies and families in a varied program of social events throughout the year ranging from an annual Family Barbecue Social to Picnic Cabaret dances, an Australia Day breakfast gathering, regular ladies in the South and participate with other district freemasons in a Combined Lodges Christmas Function.
We welcome visitors to many of our functions and are always keen to talk to people interested to know and understand the principles of freemasonry and to address any questions that they may have.
Our regular lodge meetings are held at the Sunraysia Masonic Centre, Irymple, on the Third Tuesday of each month with the Installation meeting being held in September.
We would also be pleased to provide further information on The Mildura Lodge or to arrange an inspection of the Sunraysia Masonic Centre for any interested person.
