An ongoing project Co-ordinated throughout Victoria by Freemasons Victoria is the collection of ring pulls for aluminium cans for recycling and reuse in wheelchair wheels and prosthetic limbs. Each kilo of ring pulls collected provides enough material to manufacture two prosthetic limbs (arms or legs). Following the donation of $5000 to the University of Chiang Mai, for the provision of prostheses to disabled children and adults in Thailand, it was declared that the recipient of future funds raised by the ring pull collection would be Heartkids.
The Freemasons Task Force has a long standing relationship with Heartkids whose mission is to meet the needs of children with congenital heart defects. Funds raised are contributed to the advancement of peadiatric cardiac research at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Melbourne.
