Past Projects
Celebration at the opening of the Elpitiya Project in Ahungalla, Sri Lanka
The Board of Benevolence is regularly involved in singular projects that address a specific need. These projects can be on a relatively small scale, including donations to specific charities, to large scale projects co-ordinated with sister Australasian Grand Lodges. Some of these projects have included:

Open Family

On the 7th February, 2008, the Board of Benevolence donated $1000 to Open Family Australia for the support of their Back to School programme. The Back to School programme is in its 19th year, providing school books and stationary packs to young Victorians who are at risk of leaving school due to financial constraints. Under the programme, students on Unable to Live at Home Allowance and/or are an Asylum Seeker on Bridging Visa E are eligible for the programme. Without this assistance, many of these students would leave school or be disadvantaged in class.

Alkira Buses

On the 29th April, 2008, the Board of Benevolence joined with the Freemasons of Maroondah district in presenting a cheque of $10,000 to the management of the Forest Hill Alkira Community house for the purchase of a bus to transport residents of the Facility. The Alkira organisation provide services for adults with an intellectual disability, to assist them to attain a life which provides them with respect, choices, experiences, personal fulfilment and safety as afforded to all citizens in the community. The Alkira Centre provides a range of services including Day Services, Transport Services, Recreation Services and Residential Services.

Elpitya

In response to the devastation caused by the boxing day Tsunami in 2004, the United Grand Lodge of Victoria through the Board of Benevolence and in coordination with the Grand Lodges of New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and New Zealand raised $440 000 to contribute to reconstruction efforts. This money was put to use to build the Skills Training centre in the South West Sri Lankan village of Ahungalla. The centre has facilities to teach dye and mould making, information technology and motor repair. Along side the facility there is a boarding house/hostel to cater for fifty orphans and fifty students undertaking skills training.
